The Future of Vacuum Thermal Insulation. Is here.

Vacuum Insulation
with Game-Changing Features

Validated for large-scale production.

Environmentally friendly

Low Environmental Impact:
Perlite is a naturally occurring and renewable resource, very energy efficient in production, non-toxic and inert, and fully recyclable back to earth.

Thermally efficient

Low Cost, High Performance:
Perlite is more cost efficient by a factor 7 than comparable vacuum technology (silica powder) with comparable thermal performance.

Structually lasting

Unique Functional Properties:
Perlite vacuum insulation remains performant for decades, provides higher mechanic stability than conventional insulation and can be molded around whole objects, eliminating thermal bridges altogether.

Born out of a Vision

The world’s first film-based Perlite Vacuum Insulation Technology proven for serial production.

In 2012, our science team started on a path to prove that it was possible to engineer a film-based perlite vacuum thermal insulation technology that could be incorporated into serial production processes – and we succeeded.

TerraVac has created the world’s first film-based 3D Vacuum Body using perlite powder and thus eliminating heat bridges. The technology is already in serial production with consumer products in the market.

Now, we are directing our resources to develop and commercialize our leading vacuum insulation technology into many more applications – innovating one industry at a time.

The next Big Thing

Cost-efficient vacuum insulation technology.

So far, silica based vacuum technology has been the gold standard. However, the application has been limited due to its high cost and geometric constraints. Perlite, the core of our vacuum insulation is a factor of 7 more cost efficient. Our film-based technology enables the complete wrapping of shapes into our vacuum system, thus eliminating thermal bridges. Our new technology will dramatically improve energy efficiency ratings, manufacturing costs, functionality and even enable new product categories. We have created vacuum insulation at a new level of flexibility and a significantly reduced cost.

Our Technology

Vacuum and Perlite combined

The absence of air – vacuum – provides the best possible thermal insulation and perlite has a high structural stability with low solid-state conduction due to its crystalline microstructure.

For this reason, the combination of vacuum and perlite in our innovative TerraVac technology creates an incomparably energy-efficient and simultaneously compact solution for thermal insulation.

Features

With the combination of evacuated perlite, high barrier film and the sophisticated measurement systems of TerraVac, it is validated that our insulation lasts for decades.

The high-barrier film consists of several plastic layers and an embedded metallic barrier layer. The plastic layers can be bonded to the surrounding components by heat and separated from each other again. The extremely thin metal layer made of aluminium reduces gas ingress and reliably secures the vacuum over a long period of time.

With our highly effective vacuum insulation, the walls can be dramatically thinner than the walls of conventional insulation. This is why TerraVac insulated components can have greater capacity and/or smaller exterior dimensions.

  • Expanded volcanic rock – a natural raw material with an almost limitless supply which is constantly renewed by the earth
  • Rapid renaturation after removal – removal without any soil-polluting chemicals and a small footprint
  • Completely innocuous – the rock gets its crystalline microstructure only from heating and grinding and is already used in beverage filtration

The Vacuum Insulation Technology
that works.

For any Shape.

One of the unique features of our insulation technology, is that the film-based system with perlite filling can wrap around any object. Gone are the days where expensive silica-based solutions for panels or double walled metal solutions were the standards of vacuum insulation. We can now apply vacuum insulation cost efficiently to any shape such as pipes, panels, boxes and vessels – for heat or cold insulation.

About TerraVac

About Us

TerraVac is focused on developing and commercializing world-class vacuum insulation technology for consumer and enterprise applications.

Developed as an innovative material for the Liebherr Group and first announced in 2022, our TerraVac technology has accomplished what has been tried for decades – a 3D Body vacuum insulation, using perlite dust encapsuled by a high barrier film, for a wide range of applications.

Our History

Jochen Hiemeyer and his team had a vision in 2012.

After leading the innovation in silica-based vacuum insulation panel technology (VIP), they embarked on the development of a perlite-based solution within a film shell that would allow them to shape into any form and even incorporate pass throughs – while eliminating thermal bridges inherent to panel-based solutions.

The Science

For our achievements, we also had to become innovators in measuring technologies for vacuum insulation. A unique expertise in vacuum and thermal insulation systems that we utilize to help solve our partners’ thermal challenges.

Today, we are proud to be the thought and technology leader in vacuum insulation systems with our perlite-based 3D Body solution already embedded in serial production processes – a leap forward in advanced, cost efficient and sustainable vacuum insulation.
